National Genomics Data Center (NGDC)

Database

国家基因组科学数据中心

DESCRIPTION
Operated by CNCB (China National Center for Bioinformation). The NGDC provides open-access data and services for life and health sciences—supporting translation of large-scale data into discoveries for academia and industry. The site describes the center as National Genomics Data Center (formerly the BIG Data Center) and highlights national-scale infrastructure (multi-petabyte storage, high-throughput compute, and wide network capacity). Flagship sequence services center on GSA (Genome Sequence Archive) and Genome Warehouse (GWH); other prominent portals include GenBase (genetic sequences), GVM (Genome Variation Map), OMIX (miscellaneous multi-omics), BioProject and BioSample libraries, GSA-Human (human omics with controlled access), MethBank, GEN (Gene Expression Nebulas), Database Commons (biological database catalog), BioCode, BIT (Bioinformatics Toolkit), OpenLB, and BIG Search (cross-domain search). The English hub also groups partner access to EBI- and NCBI-family databases alongside NGDC-hosted resources.
GSA
基因组序列存档
https://ngdc.cncb.ac.cn/gsa/
Genome Sequence Archive—repository for raw sequencing reads, assemblies, and study metadata at NGDC, in the same role as SRA / ENA within the INSDC ecosystem.
GSA-Human
人类基因组序列存档
https://ngdc.cncb.ac.cn/gsa-human/
Human-focused omics archive with controlled access and policy-driven release, analogous in purpose to controlled human read archives elsewhere.
OMIX
多组学数据存档
https://ngdc.cncb.ac.cn/omix/
Multi-omics submission and browse portal for datasets that do not fit a single “sequence-only” archive—metadata-rich miscellaneous omics at NGDC.

CNGBdb (CNGB)

Database

国家基因库数据库

DESCRIPTION
Unified portal for sharing and using biological data, built on large-scale data, cloud computing, and AI. DNA Omics, Cell Omics, and Spatial Omics hubs surface 40+ scientific databases spanning biodiversity, microbiology, and health. Core services include CNSA (China National GeneBank Sequence Archive) for omics submission via the CNSA submit portal, spatial-omics submission, FTP-based dataset download, BLAST and other analysis tools, bioinformatics training, and cooperation offerings (database development, hosting, and analysis). The site publishes handbooks plus terms, privacy, and data-sharing policies.

Also known as
China National GeneBank Database

National Bioscience Database Center (NBDC)

Database
DESCRIPTION
NBDC coordinates Japanese life-science database policy and infrastructure with domestic and international partners. It oversees human data sharing (review, security guidelines, and linkage to archives such as JGA), group-level restricted sharing, and discovery services such as TogoVar. Day-to-day operation of the NBDC Human Database and NBDC Group Shared Database platforms is carried out with DBCLS in cooperation with the DDBJ Center at NIG.
NBDC Human Database
https://humandbs.dbcls.jp/en
Portal to apply for submission or reuse of human omics and related data under NBDC guidelines; reviews controlled-access datasets archived in JGA and coordinates with DDBJ. (Operated by DBCLS; successor site to the former *humandbs.biosciencedbc.jp* URL.)
JGA
https://www.ddbj.nig.ac.jp/jga/
Japanese Genotype-phenotype Archive—repository for individual-level genetic and phenotypic data with access controls; Japan’s counterpart in spirit to dbGaP and the EGA, operated by the DDBJ Center under NBDC/DBCLS policy workflows.
NBDC Group Shared Database
https://gr-sharingdbs.dbcls.jp/en
Infrastructure for laboratory- and consortium-scale sharing when public release or JGA-style archives are not appropriate—group-restricted access with NBDC oversight. (Operated by DBCLS; replaces the former *gr-sharingdbs.biosciencedbc.jp* service.)
TogoVar
https://togovar.org/
Japanese genetic variation browser integrating allele frequencies, transcripts, and disease/clinical annotations—useful for interpreting variants in Japanese and related cohorts; currently provided via DBCLS (historically promoted through NBDC).

DNA Data Bank of Japan (DDBJ)

Database
DESCRIPTION
The DDBJ Center at the National Institute of Genetics (NIG) operates Japan’s INSDC member services: the DDBJ nucleotide archive, DRA (raw reads), GEA (expression), and BioProject / BioSample metadata, with unified submission through D-way. Data flow is synchronized with NCBI and ENA; JGA for controlled human data is operated alongside NBDC human-data policies.
DDBJ
https://www.ddbj.nig.ac.jp/ddbj/index-e.html
Annotated and assembled nucleotide sequences (INSDC); accessions and daily exchange with GenBank and ENA keep a single global nucleotide corpus.
DRA
https://www.ddbj.nig.ac.jp/dra/index-e.html
DDBJ Sequence Read Archive—raw sequencing reads, metadata, and experiment records; INSDC partner of SRA and ENA under common run accession conventions.
GEA
https://www.ddbj.nig.ac.jp/gea/index-e.html
Genomic Expression Archive—submissions from microarray and high-throughput sequencing (e.g. RNA-seq, ChIP-seq) with MIAME/MINSEQE-style metadata; complements GEO-style discovery.
BioProject
https://www.ddbj.nig.ac.jp/bioproject/index-e.html
Study-level registration for sequencing and functional projects; links to BioSample, DRA, DDBJ, and GEA objects so INSDC submissions stay traceable end to end.
BioSample
https://www.ddbj.nig.ac.jp/biosample/index-e.html
Sample-level metadata (organism, tissue, collection) shared across INSDC; sample accessions tie experiments in DRA and GEA to reproducible biological context.
JGA
https://www.ddbj.nig.ac.jp/jga/
Japanese Genotype-phenotype Archive—controlled-access storage for human genotype and phenotype data; submission and data use are gated through the NBDC Human Database.
